M-Audio MobilePre 1 USB Audio Interface
The M-Audio MobilePre USB (First Generation) is a classic, bus-powered 2-channel audio interface and microphone preamp designed for home recording, basic podcasting, and mobile tracking. Originally launched in the mid-2000s, it gained massive popularity as a simple, affordable entry point for musicians before being succeeded by the MobilePre MKII.
Audio Resolution: 16-bit / 48 kHz max sampling rate.
Inputs: Two XLR microphone inputs with switchable 48V phantom power, two 1/4" high-impedance instrument/line inputs (ideal for guitars), and a stereo 1/8" mic input.
Outputs: Two 1/4" line outputs (unbalanced/balanced) for studio monitors and a dedicated 1/4" headphone jack.
Power: Entirely USB bus-powered, eliminating the need for an external adapter.
Monitoring: Supports hardware-based zero-latency direct monitoring via a physical switch or control panel toggle.
The interface is now considered legacy hardware and is no longer actively supported by M-Audio with up-to-date drivers for the newest operating systems (like recent macOS updates or Windows 11). However, it will work on operating systems up to MacOS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard & Windows 7.
